Rights and Responsibilities
As a charter member of the Alternatives Neighborhood, you have the right to a business site which has your company's name, the name of the primary contact for your company, a hot link to your company's web site, and easy access to all the areas of the Alternatives Neighborhood. You will have a comprehensive listing in the Alternatives Neighborhood Roster.
You have a right to security. Your password allows the only access to the listing for edit purposes. Other than pre-announced Open House days, no one will be able to access the site without a private password.
One of the primary objectives of the Alternatives Neighborhood is to provide an area where the entrepreneur is free of constant aggressive marketing. We wish to provide an environment where there are numerous opportunities for passive marketing and no opportunities for aggressive marketing. Any overt solicitation of sales within the Alternatives Neighborhood will be considered an act of vandalism equal to graffiti. Member's engaging in such activity will be warned. Upon the third such warning the company's membership will be revoked. They will lose all rights and privileges of residency in the Alternatives Neighborhood, and will not be able to rejoin for three years. In case of particularly severe offenses, the Alternatives Neighborhood reserves the right to evict a member immediately. All evictions are without refund.
The Alternatives Neighborhood is specifically designed to support entrepreneurs in the growth and development of their businesses. (The Alternatives Neighborhood cannot be held responsible if any member perceives the loss of business, business time, or any other asset due to the environmental limits of internet access, processing speed, or other interaction through the Alternatives Neighborhood.)
The internet is still a relatively new type of space. Just as the real world we live in is not perfect., the virtual world of the Alternatives Neighborhood has its own potential flaws. As a member of the Alternatives Neighborhood participation with patience is expected. There is an area where grievances and suggestions can be registered and all will be carefully reviewed.
As a member of the Alternatives Neighborhood, you have the responsibility of protecting your own information. Do not post any data which you consider proprietary. If you do not wish to share it, don't post it.
You also have the responsibility of protecting your neighbor's peace and security. Take advantage of the numerous opportunities for passive marketing offered. Engage in making friends and contacts. Have conversations about topics of shared interest. Do not attempt to sell to your neighbors except in the appropriate ways and in the designated areas.
Since security is always an issue, the Alternatives Neighborhood has been made a secure site. Each member has a company password. The individual members are responsible for the conduct of anyone using their password. Your password may be changed as you wish. Distribution of your password must be done with consideration to the potential consequences.
The Alternatives Neighborhood has a set of principles which we would suggest that each member consider as guidelines for their participation in the neighborhood. These same guidelines may be applied to business life in general.
New services and areas will be developed in the Alternatives Neighborhood over time.
Each member will be notified of any upcoming changes.
